As Director of the Office of Special Instructional Services, I welcome you to our SAU #39 Special Instructional Services web page.

School Administrative Unit #39 is comprised of the Amherst, Mont Vernon and Souhegan Cooperative School Districts.  These districts represent the K-12 learning experience for approximately 3000 students and their families in the towns of Amherst and Mont Vernon.  There are approximately 422 students serviced with Individualized Educational Programs (IEP).  United by a common mission, "To Engage, Support and Challenge All Learners", we work together with common core values towards common goals.  We strive to prepare all of our students for success in their future lives as productive citizens and life-long learners.

Special Instructional Services personnel assist in the achievement of the SAU #39 goal that "Each Student will demonstrate improved performance in all subject areas, as measured annually through multiple assessments".  this will be accomplished within the next five years by SAU 39 focusing on reading and writing across the curriculum.

Special Instructional Services are an integral part of the educational system in the districts of Amherst, Mont Vernon and Souhegan.  All teaching staff collaborates on behalf of and in support of all students.  We fully embrace the fact that improving student learning is driven by the interdependence of all the adults working collaboratively to improve their practice on behalf of all students in our schools.

SAU #39 fully endorses the philosophy of inclusive education for all students to the maximum extent appropriate.  Our programs are oriented to this philosophy and are, of course, in compliance with Federal regulations mandating education in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
